Lost on operations
AK354 Mk.IIB 14865 served with 3 Sqn RAAF;
delivered 21/5/41;
on 8/6/41 it was flown by John Saunders on 3 Sqn's first operational Tomahawk flight;
on 19/6/41 Sgt M P A Randall (407080) crashed on landing at Lydda when oil obscured his vision;
it was repaired then later transferred 112 Sqn.
AK365 Mk.IIB 14876 served with 3 Sqn RAAF;
on 19/5/41 it was delivered to 3 Sqn;
on 26/5/41 it was hit by a landing AK474 when parked near the runway at Lydda.

AK366 Mk.IIB 14877 served with 3 Sqn RAAF;
delivered 19/5/41; on 8/6/41 it was flown by Eric Lane on 3 SQN's first operational Tomahawk flight;
on 25/6/41 F/O John Jackson shot down a LeO 451;
on 26/6/41 was hit by AA and Sgt M J Baillie (407070) was forced to crash land it;
repaired and later transferred to 5 Sqn SAAF.

AK370 Mk.IIB 14881 served with 3 Sqn RAAF under RAF Contol;
on 24/6/41 it was damaged by a D520 in starboard wing and then damaged further on landing at Haifa (category 2 damage) with Sgt F B Reid (402137) being ok;
then repaired.
AK378 Mk.IIB 14889 served with 3 Sqn RAAF and was named "Go Getter Gertie" on the port cowl;
on 25/11/41 Sgt M J Baillie (407070) shot down a Bf109 ;
on 9/12/41 it was shot down by Bf109s near El Adem killing F/O David Rutter (833).
AK382 Mk.IIB 14893 served with 3 Sqn RAAF was coded 'V' with 'Tindian' a contraction of 'Tim Indian' on the port cowl and was usually flown by F/O Thomas Hamilton Trimble (260652);
it was supplied from 112 Sqn;
22/11/41 it was flown by F/O Trimble on a wing op and they were formed into a defensive circle (contrary to accepted practise) losing 6 a/c;
on 29/11/41 it was damaged on take-off with F/O Geoffrey Talbot Chinchen (250704) being ok.
AK388 Mk.IIB 14899 served with 3 Sqn RAAF;
delivered 16/5/41; on 18/5/41 it was damaged in landing [pilot?];
on 23/5/41 it was returned to the Sqn;
on 25/6/41 it was damaged on landing at Jenin by F/O F Fisher (250626);
repaired and transferred 4 Sqn SAAF.
AK390 Mk.IIB 14901 served with 3 Sqn RAAF;
delivered from 112 Sqn;
on 22/11/41 it was shot down by a Bf109 near El Adem with pilot being F/O W Kloster (650) who survived.
AK392 Mk.IIB 14903 served with 3 Sqn RAAF;
delivered from 250 Sqn;
on 30/11/41 it was damaged during operations with Sgt Rex Kerslake Wilson (407088) flying it back to base;
later transferred 5 Sqn SAAF.
AK393 Mk.IIB 14904 served with 3 Sqn RAAF;
from 2 Sqn SAAF;
on 8/6/41 it was flown by F/O Robert Henry Maxwell Gibbes (260714) on 3 Sqn's first operational Tomahawk flight;
25/6/41 F/O John Saunders shot down a LeO 451;
transferred 40 Sqn SAAF.
AK402 Mk.IIB 14913 served with 3 Sqn RAAF;
19/10/41 flown out to 107 MU for 180hr inspection;
transferred 112 Sqn.
AK407 Mk.IIB 14918 served with 3 Sqn RAAF;
14/5/41 delivered from 2 Sqn SAAF;
30/5/41 undercarriage retracted during landing;
19/11/41 shot down by Bf-109s 20 miles Nth of Maddalena with F/O Frank Fischer (250626) surviving the ordeal.
AK408 Mk.IIB 14919 served with 3 Sqn RAAF;
5/6/41 spun into ground 2.5 miles East of Jaffa killing Sgt Norman Arvon Evans (402113).
AK410 Mk.IIB 14921 served with 3 Sqn RAAF;
14/5/41 delivered;
20/5/41 the port undercarriage failed to lock down and collapsed on landing at Lydda with F/L Blake Raymond Pelly (260226);
repaired and later transferred to 208 Sqn.

AK420 Mk.IIB 14931 served with 3 Sqn RAAF;
23/6/41 F/O Percival Roy Bothwell (695) shot down 2 Dewoitine D520s;
21/9/41 F/O John Kenneth Stratten (260758) hit a Tomahawk from 250 Sqn on takeoff damaging AK420 beyond repair.

Tomahawk Mk.II in which F/O. Stratten was killed. 3 Squadron, Sidi Haneish,via Mike Mirkovic.

AK427 Mk.IIB 14938 served with 3 Sqn RAAF;
8/6/41 flown by Jock Perrin on 3 Sqn's first operational Tomahawk flight;
28/6/41 Sgt Michael Randall was killed in crash on takeoff;
damaged at Damascuc-Mezze after engine failure and a/c spun in.
AK429 Mk.IIB 14940 served with 3 Sqn RAAF;
28/6/41 Sgt Rex Kerslake Wilson (407088) shot down a Maryland 167;
1/7/41 it was damaged in combat with Sgt Mervyn James Headen Ballie (407070) flying it back to base;
3/7/41 flown to MU; repaired and transferred 5 Sqn SAAF.

AK435 Mk.IIB 14946 served with 3 Sqn RAAF;
11/6/41 damaged on landing with Sgt Hedley Maurice Smeeton (408015) ok; struck off charge.

25/6/41 Sgt Alan Cecil Cameron (404085) shot down LeO 451;
29/6/41 F/O Lindsay Eric Shaw Knowles (456) shot down Maryland 167;
11/7/41 involved in forced landing by F/O Knowles 10 miles NNW of Damascus? after flak damage.
AK438 Mk.IIB 14949 served with 3 Sqn RAAF;
transferred 2 Sqn SAAF.
AK439 Mk.IIB 14950 served with 3 Sqn RAAF;
16/5/41 was delivered; 9/6/41 F/L Alan Rawlinson made a wheels up landing after engine failure on takeoff at Lydda;
transferred 5 Sqn SAAF.
AK446 Mk.IIB 14952 served with 3 Sqn RAAF;
28/6/41 Alan Rawlinson shot down 3 Maryland 167s;
17/12/41 transferred 2 Sqn SAAF.
AK456 Mk.IIB 15327 served with 3 Sqn RAAF;
had 'ORTOGO' nose art on the cowl and was the usual a/c of Peter Turnbull;
14/9/41 P/O Lawnton 'Sammy' Lees (400092) shot down a Bf110 in this a/c and was reported missing but they were later recovered; transferred to 40 Sqn SAAF.
AK462 Mk.IIB 15333 served with 3 Sqn RAAF;
3/6/41 it was damaged when it landed on an unfinished area of the runway at Lydda by Lt Smith (SAAF undergoing training);
repaired and transferred 5 Sqn SAAF.

AK463 Mk.IIB 15334 served with 3 Sqn RAAF;
24/6/41 damaged during combat and then further damaged when landing by P/O Peter St George Bruce Turnbull (481) on return from that op;
transferred 5 Sqn SAAF.
AK464 Mk.IIB 15335 served with 3 Sqn RAAF;
11/7/41 F/O Robert Henry Maxwell Gibbes (260714) shot down a Dewoitine D520 which was his first victory;
14/9/41 F/O David John Burbury (250703) was shot down during an attack on Gambut airfield,
he was declared MIA but was in fact a POW.
AK465 Mk.IIB 15336 served with 3 Sqn RAAF;
20/11/41 it was damaged in the u/c during combat and F/O Robert Henry Maxwell Gibbes (260714) force landed at LG122;
repaired and transferred 208 Sqn.
AK474 Mk.IIB 15426 served with 3 Sqn RAAF;
19/5/41 it was delivered;
26/5/41 it collided with AK365 while F/O Davidson was taking off.
AK476 Mk.IIB 15428 served with 3 Sqn RAAF;
08/6/41 it was flown by S/L Peter Jeffrey (145) on 3 Sqn's first operational Tomahawk flight;
28/6/41 F/O Peter Turnbull shot down 2 Maryland 167s ;
10/7/41 Sgt Hiller shot down a Dewoitine D520;
19/10/41 it was flown out to 107 MU for 180hr inspection.
AK488 Mk.IIB 15440 served with 3 Sqn RAAF;
15/6/41 damaged when F/L Alan Charles Rawlinson (386) could not get undercarriage to lock down and it collapsed on landing at Lydda;
transferred out.
AK499 Mk.IIB 15451 served with 3 Sqn RAAF;
it was delivered from 112 Sqn;
30/11/41 Damaged on operations; (AN457 lost and AK378 also damaged);
9/12/41 it went missing in action on sweep of El Adem with Sgt Alan Cecil Cameron (404085) who evaded capture and walked back in 3 days.
AK506 Mk.IIB 15458 served with 3 Sqn RAAF;
25/11/41 Sgt Rex Kerslake Wilson (407088) shot down a Bf110;
30/11/41 it crash landed at El Adem after damaged by Bf109 and was scrapped.
AK510 Mk.IIB 15462 served with 3 Sqn RAAF;
22/11/41 shot down by Bf109 at Bir el Gubbi during Blenheim escort op with F/O Malcolm Hector Watson (845) being KIA.
AK516 Mk.IIB 15468 served with 3 Sqn RAAF;
12/10/41 it crash landed after damaged by Bf109 with F/O H G Roberts (406082)
AK526 Mk.IIB 15478 served with 3 Sqn RAAF;
10/7/41 P/O Lane shot down a Dewoitine D520;
11/7/41 shot down by D520 20 miles SW Hama, Syria with F/O Frank Fischer (250626).
AK539 Mk.IIB 15491 served with 3 Sqn RAAF;
24/9/41 it was shot down by Bf109s during attack on a JU88 with F/L John Henry William Saunders (471) surviving.
AK548 Mk.IIB 15500 served with 3 Sqn RAAF;
20/8/41 it hit ground while low flying 1 mile east of Estabel with Sgt W Mailey (402375) being ok.
AK566 Mk.IIB 15518 served with 3 Sqn RAAF;
12/10/41 it force landed at LG.105 after damage by Bf109s with Sgt D Scott (402147) escaping.
AM374 Mk.IIB 15527 served with 3 Sqn RAAF;
transferred to 4 Sqn SAAF.
AM378 Mk.IIB 15831 served with 3 Sqn RAAF;
10/7/41 F/O John Jackson shot down a Dewoitine D520;
22/11/41 it was shot down by Bf109s SE of Ell Adem with F/O Eric Hall Lane (406002) being KIA.
AM384 Mk.IIB 1583? served with 3 Sqn RAAF;
supplied from 112 Sqn;
30/11/41 in this a/c F/O Tom Trimble shot down 2 Macchi MC200 and damaged 3 Junkers Ju87s;
13/12/41 he was shot down in this a/c near Martuba probably by Marseille.
AM386 Mk.IIB 15839 served with 3 Sqn RAAF;
had 'Sweet FA' on the cowl and was the usual a/c of F/L Alan Charles Rawlinson (386);
10/7/41 F/O Peter Turnbull shot down 2 Dewoitine D520;
22/8/41 the starboard tailplane & elevator fell off during aerobatics forcing F/L Alan Rawlinson to crash land at Rayak;
repaired; 1/2/44 SOC with 71 OTU.
AM392 Mk.IIB 158?? served with 3 Sqn RAAF;
transferred from 250 Sqn were it was coded LD-W and had "Nux Vomica" under the cockpit on the port side;
transferred 5 Sqn SAAF.
AM398 Mk.IIB 15851 served with 3 Sqn RAAF;
was coded 'V' with 'Tindian', a contraction of Tin Indian, on the port cowl,
usually F/O Tom Trimble's aircraft and this cowl was on other aircraft when this a/c was serviced;
on 25/11/41 it went missing in action near Sidi Omar believed shot down by ack-ack with F/O Percival Roy Bothwell (695) being KIA.
AM400 Mk.IIB 15853 served with 3 Sqn RAAF;
25/11/41 it crashed during a forced landing with F/L J G Manford (290488) escaping serious injury.
AM406 Mk.IIB 15859 served with 3 Sqn RAAF;
from 112 Sqn;
25/11/41 P/O Edward H B Jackson (270530) shot down a Bf110;
17/12/41 it transferred to 4 Sqn SAAF.
AM413 Mk.IIB 15866 served with 3 Sqn RAAF;
26/11/41 shot down by Bf109 near Tobruk with Sgt Geoffrey Edward Hiller (407075) ?.
AM425 Mk.IIB 15878 served with 3 Sqn RAAF;
17/12/41 transferred 4 Sqn SAAF.
AM476 Mk.IIB 15929 served with 3 Sqn RAAF; transferred 73 OTU.
AM507 Mk.IIB 15960 served with 3 Sqn RAAF;
20/11/41 Sgt Ronald Henry Simes (402259) shot down Bf110;
22/11/41 Sgt Ron Symes shot down a Bf109 but then was shot down himself SE El Adem and KIA.
AN224 Mk.IIB 17823 served with 3 Sqn RAAF;
12/12/41 it collided in mid air with AN335 but recovered with F/O R H S Gray (260717) returning it to base safely;
repaired and later 2 Sqn SAAF.
AN238 Mk.IIB 17837 served with 3 Sqn RAAF;
?/?/41 damaged on landing at LG102 with Sgt W L A Mailey (402375) being ok;
repaired and later transferred to 5 Sqn SAAF.
AN244 Mk.IIB 17843 served with 3 Sqn RAAF;
22/11/41 it was force landed by W/C Peter Jeffrey (145) after damaged by Bf109.
AN270 Mk.IIB 17869 served with 3 Sqn RAAF;
14/12/41 shot down by Bf109 near Martuba with Sgt D Scott (402147) surviving.
AN274 Mk.IIB 17873 served with 3 Sqn RAAF;
13/12/41 Sgt Alan Cecil Cameron (404085) was shot down by a Bf109; 17/12/41 was transferred to 112 Sqn.

W/C Peter Jeffrey shot down Bf110 25/11/41.
AN343 Mk.IIB ? served with 3 Sqn RAAF; was coded 'X' with 3 Sqn;
F/O Bruce Evans shot down 15/11/41.
AN355 Mk.IIB ? served with 3 Sqn RAAF;
was coded R with them and had 'Snifter' on the cowl;
was the usual a/c of F/L Lindsay Knowles;
