Delivered to CASA 31/05/2006.
Conversion to tanker by EADS Conversion and Modification Centre at Getafe, near Madrid in Spain. "Roll-in" ceremony 2/06/2006

Seville - Airbus Military Family Day 14/11/2010
Had incident on 20/01/2011 when the boom was damaged during refuelling trials with a Portugese Airforce F-16. No Australian personel involved.
Delivered to RAAF in Madrid December 2011. Currently remains in Spain for tests and will be transferred to RAAF Base Amberley, Queensland later in the year.

    Completed the first MRTT flight in RAAF service 16/09/2011. It took off from RAAF Base Amberley at about 10.40am for a 2 hours and 45 minutes long flight over Roma and the Sunshine Coast, before returning to RAAF Base Amberley

  • An initial operational capability for Air Logistics Services (passengers and cargo) and pods (hose and drogue) air to air refuelling capability is planned by end-2012. A full operational capability, for Air Logistic Services and pods and boom air to air refuelling, is planned by end-2013.

    It would appear that A39-004 and A39-005 both carried Spanish registration EC-336. Any clarification would be welcome
