Beasley strafed shoreline along with A8-104 whilst Catalina of 113 ASRF rescued crew of A8-33 shot down off Tulehu (Parnell p.60). Trialled with US zero length rocket stubs which proved successful but was not used operationally. 09/12/44 tyre burst on landing Wama airstrip and aircraft swung into a heap of rubble. Repaired by in-Sqn with parts from crashed aircraft. 01/01/45 Hit by Japanese AA during armed reconnaissance over Celebes and ditched in Molucca Passage. Pilot Chiffings rescued by Catalina the next day but Nav FSGT E.A. Frost was not found (Parnell p.57).

18/09/44 1 AD. 28/11/44 26 RSU. 01/01/45 31 Sqn. (photo just after delivery Pentland V2 p.90). 31/03/45 Hit by Japanese anti-aircraft fire in port engine and mainplane, gradually lost height and ditched near Ambonia. Crew: Pilot WOFF R.K. Roberts & Nav either FLGOFF Hastie (Vincent p.86) or SGT B. W. Phillips (Parnell p.59) who was slightly wounded in the stomach took to their dingy. Accompanying Beaufighter A8-89 (Pilot: PLTOFF K. W. Sourness & Nav PLTOFF Coleman) radioed for air-sea rescue and circled until fuel shortage forced its departure. A8-6 (Pilot FLGOFF Edwards & Nav FLGOFF D.I. Beasley) and A8-104 (Pilot PLTOFF T.W. Ellis & Nav PLTOFF Coleman) then took up station until Catalina A24-109 piloted by FLTLT W. Mills of 113 ASR Flight landed on the water just 300m from shore. The Catalina suddenly came under fire from a camouflaged Japanese watercraft and its blister guns returned fire. Both Beaufighters commenced strafing the shoreline. An engine of A8-104 was disabled by ground fire but continued to strafe until the Catalina, which was slightly damaged ,had taken off. The crew of A8-33 were successfully rescued and the Navigator recovered from his injuries. (Vincent p.86 & Parnell p.59-60)

The name “Beryl II” appears on the port nose and the number 37 is encased in a map of Australia, minus Tasmania, on the front of the nose cone. The starboard nose has the name “Gwen” (wife of FLTLT L. Watson) with the names “Pilot F/L 'Doc' Watson & Nav P/O Joe Prowse” directly under the cockpit. The information came from a series of photos taken at Morotai on or after 02/45 and supplied in 08/03 by Stephen Matthews, grandson of LAC Gray. Crew: Pilot FLTLT L.Watson & Nav PLTOFF J.     29/11/45 1 AD. 28/11/46 TT&SD Flight Richmond. 29/07/47 Aircraft was on a radar calibration flight when problems developed in an engine. Whilst returning to Richmond NSW at about 4pm, the aircraft entered a spiral dive from 4000 feet, one engine detached and A8-357 crashed near Clarendon. Pilot WOFF H.R. Stevens was killed. This was the last fatality in a Beaufighter (Parnell p.76). 07/09/47 converted to components.

    22/11/45 1 AD. 13/10/46 TT&SD Flight Richmond. 1947 Used in successful rain making experiments in conjunction with the CSIRO fitted out for high altitude flying. Dry ice was dropped onto clouds from the rear escape hatch (Parnell p.75).10/06/54 Air Trails Unit Woomera. 05/11/57 Electrical failure near Woomera. Photo in Parnell (p.79) shows starboard side TT winch with silver uppersurfaces, yellow tail band, kangaroo roundel and yellow/black undersurfaces. A8-357 was the last operational Beaufighter in RAAF service. 29/11/57 Ferried from 1 ATU Woomera to Edinborough Adelaide SA by Pilot WNGCDR Williamson & Nav FSGT Gleeson. This was probably the final flight of any Beaufighter on RAAF service (Parnell p.77). 02/04/58 Sold to W. Brown and Sons, Hindmarsh SA.
